Banquet (in detail) Feeling: Monday, May. 30, 2005, 4:19 pm
No, I'm not dead. I've just been terribly busy. Right now I'm sending Kasey a pic of my dress over AIM so she can blur out my face so I can let you all see my dress. It's taking FOREVER! It's almost done, though, so hopefully soon I can link it in here. OK, so I got an anonymous message that you want to know all about my Banquet. We had the decorating nearly finished by Thursday afternoon, so on Friday all we had to do was set up the tables and do some cleaning. Friday I was home before 1. I was so happy! Before I got my hair done, Rachel S. called and asked if I could pick up a fake beard for Caleb for our entertainment. So Mom and I walked to the store she wanted us to look at (that's why she called...she knew I lived really close to the place), and I was able to buy a good beard. So at 2:30 I was getting my hair done. It took a whole hour! I was amazed, but, THANKFULLY, at the time it didn't seem like it was taking that long. I was really pleased with how my hair turned out; it looked SOOOOO awesome!!!!!!!! (Am I bragging? LOL.) So after my hair was done I came home and Mom painted my nails, did my makeup, and helped me into the dress. Don't remember what time I got to school. 6:15, I think. (We were supposed to be there between 6:25 and 6:30.) As usual, everyone was standing in front of the school entrance ooh-ing and aah-ing over each other, taking pictures, talking, etc. Finally the juniors entered the gym to wait for the seniors. (Well, SOME of the juniors...16 of the juniors were escorting in a senior.) Finally, it was time to sit down and eat. The following were seated at my table: Emily (my cousin), Toria, Scott, Tina, Angel, and Clark (he's the one I went with). I think everyone at my table but me ate filet mignon. It came with twice baked potatoes. I had veal parmesan over pasta. It came with a green bean casserole. Both choices came with fresh baked bread. (It was REALLY good.) Besides the bread, the only part of my meal that I liked was the pasta. Yummy. Oh, and the sweet tea. Wow. Just talking about it is making my mouth water. Anyway. I lost my train of thought. OH, after the meal, the juniors put on their entertainment. It was a Jeopardy! spoof. The three contestants were juniors impersonating a junior, a senior, and the junior class' male sponsor. It was SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO funny!!!!!!!!! The contestants did a really good job impersonating their respective people. Next came two school traditions - prophecies and wills. The prophecies are made up by the juniors for the seniors. It's kind of self-explanatory...a junior picks a senior and makes up something that they'll do/be in the future. I did my cousin (the afore-mentioned Emily). To tell the truth, our prophecies were rather cold. We didn't really go over them as a class, we just wrote them and gave them to Andy (he was in charge of them). They were a real flop. Thankfully (I thought), after Chase received his will, he apologized for the prophecies. I was really glad he did that. I'm not sure what the others in my class thought, but when he was saying it, I was ready to hug him. lol. So after the junior prophecies, the seniors did a last will, like when someone dies. They were pretty good. Some of them I didn't get, but most were really accurate with the nature of the person they were willing the thing to. My cousin did mine. I'm pretty sure I've made note of my shortness of stature... Well, of course she had to make fun of that. Let me quote for you what she read off:
I, Emily ---, being taller than Amy --- yet of short stature do will to her a phone book so that she can see and be seen by all drivers while driving. She had told me previously that she was doing my will, and as soon as I saw the phone book in her hand, I said, "That's for me." I was actually going to keep the phone book for sentimental reasons (NOT because I need it!), but Mom got rid of it immediately. I didn't have the heart to tell her that I actually wanted to keep it. After the wills, the Banquet was pretty much done. They did professional pictures after the Banquet. Clark and I didn't get any. Both his parents and my mom had taken pics of us with their digital cameras. So that's that. All in all, it was a huge success. I was so glad that it was finally over. To tell the honest truth, I wouldn't have gone at all if it had not been a required event. I'm really not into all that stuff. But I did enjoy myself. I'm actually already a little excited about next year's. I can't wait to see what the new juniors are going to do for us, the new seniors (I simply can't believe that I'm already a senior!!). OK, so, as promised, a picture of my dress. Click here to see me in my dress.Wow. I had no clue I could write so much about one thing! If you're still with me, I'll now move on to other things. Thursday was the last day of school. Thank God it's over. Plans for the summer? Visit some colleges, do some babysitting (regularly for some, and occasionally for others), play piano, and just basically have fun. We might go on a vacation, too. That would be nice, but it's still in the process of being decided if we will or not. Graduation was nice. I thought I would cry, since my cousin (again the afore-mentioned Emily) was graduating, but I didn't. My brain is mush. I wrote so much about Banquet, now I don't know what else to write about. Actually, there probably isn't much else, because for the past few weeks, Banquet has been my life (unfortunately). Well, since I can't get a train of thought going, I'll just stop while I'm ahead. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Thanks to all of you who signed the guestbook or left me a note. I hope to hear from you all again real soon.
