Her Homecoming
Feeling:

In my Language Arts class, we had to write a rough draft of a story about a personal event in our lives and how it made us feel. I wrote about meeting Coppelia's plane at the airport last September. I liked it so much that I decided to polish it up, type it (I even added pictures), and e-mail it to Shawna... and now, I share it with you!
Her Homecoming
We waited for her for a long, long time. At first, we didn’t know that it was her in particular that we were waiting for. We just knew that we were waiting for a special little someone to enter our world. When will that someone arrive, I wondered almost constantly.
Then – probably about two and a half to three years ago – my brother and his wife decided to start looking for that special little someone. Two years and two months ago, they found her, and they knew she was the one. They began the long, arduous process of making her their own.
Finally, fourteen months after she was born, my brother and his wife brought her home to us. We had seen many pictures, heard many stories, and had even watched videos of her and talked to her on the phone. We couldn’t wait to meet her in person.
That September night, we gathered in the airport, each of us eager to be the first among our large group to spot her. We had balloons to welcome her home, signs with her precious name on them, and many of us held American flags to welcome her to our country. An air of excitement and celebration hung over us. We studied each face as people came from their planes. We waited with bated breath as a large group of veterans returned from an event in Washington, D.C.
Finally, we saw her. “Welcome home!” we shouted. We gathered around her, eager to introduce ourselves, touch her, make a connection with her. The adults watched as she met one of her cousins and instantly made a new friend. We formed a circle in the middle of the airport and thanked God for bringing her safely home to us. She captured our hearts in an instant. She was home, and our lives would never be the same.
