An Update About Work
Feeling: The current mood of tobehis at www.imood.com

Well, here's another of the "e-mail updates" I send out to friends and family that I also like to share with you, because it's a great way to update y'all on how things are going with me, and I don't have to type it all out twice (I love copy and paste. :-D)

~*~*~*~*~*~*~

It seems enough has happened in my life for me to write to you again about how my life is going.

My classes are all going well. I've only gotten one grade back, which was a quiz in Geography. I made a 95%. We're having our second quiz on Thursday. My first Politics test is Thursday. On Monday we should receive the grades for our first two projects in art.

Monday I began tutoring a little boy in first grade at my old school, Portland Christian. We meet on Mondays and Wednesdays for half an hour after school. He has trouble remembering the sounds that go with certain letters, and his teacher also said that he as trouble recognizing numbers (for example, that 5 is a five, 9 is a nine, etc.). My plan is just to try to reinforce the letter sounds and numbers by repetition. I'm trying to think of creative ways to do that. His teacher has a computer game that we played on Wednesday. Also, when I was out buying some posterboard for my art class, I found a workbook that also has computer software on it. It has alphabet games on it, and a worksheet for each letter of the alphabet. I looked through some workbooks the teacher has, and copied four pages for us to work on together. His teacher also gave me a couple of ideas of things I can do with him. For example, she said that I could find pictures of things that begin with a certain letter (she said he has the most trouble with m, w, and g), and have a piece of paper with that letter on it, then have him paste the pictures on the paper that that picture begins with. For example, if I had a picture of a map, a wig, and a gate, I would have him put the picture of the map on a piece of paper with a M on it. I think I'm going to try to get the pictures together this weekend. I might also print out words that correspond with the pictures and have him match the word with the picture. I'm charging $15 an hour, so I'm getting $15 a week for the tutoring.

I was planning on tutoring being a nice supplement to my earnings from work, but, as it turns out, tutoring is now going to be my main source of income. I was laid off from my job today, because the company needed to let some people go due to finances. Dad just told me tonight when he came home from work. He said it might be two to three months before they could use me again. My first reaction was to gear up for looking for a job. Mom put the brakes on that, though. She thinks I should wait, especially since I'm getting money from tutoring, and I can always do more babysitting. (If you know of anyone that is looking for a babysitter, feel free to give them my name and number.) So my plan for now is just to wait it out. I'll have to have money to take a summer class, and of course I'll need to work through the summer so that I can pay for the fall semester and hopefully save for upcoming semesters. If they still can't use me by late April/very early May, I will start looking for another job. I'm really hoping that this will not be a permanent lay-off. It was the perfect job. Number one, it is a Christian-owned and operated company, and the vast majority of the employees are Christians. Second, they were really flexible with my hours. They pretty much let me make my own schedule. They never said a word when I told them I only wanted to work on Fridays during the school semester, and if I ever needed off for anything, they never denied me permission. I'll never, ever find another job like it. However, if it turns out that this is a permanent thing, and they can't use me anymore after this... I am very thankful that I was able to work there as long as I was (I was there almost two years). It was the most pefrect first job I could have ever asked for.

And that's pretty much my life.
I hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
