The Zoo and English
Feeling: The current mood of tobehis at www.imood.com

Here are two more poems I wrote; again, let me know what you think.
Maybe you're wondering why I'm writing so many poems lately? Well, for my Children's Lit class, we have to have what's called a Poetry File. We have to have at least 60 poems from 10 different sources. If we want, we can also write poems of our own to go in the file, but they don't count toward the 60 required poems. So I've been writing poems left and right (like Jenna) to put into my Poetry File.

Jenna: I know I've already gotten your opinion on these, but I tagged you anyway, because I change a couple of words in the "English" one.

The Zoo

When the weather is nice
And you can afford the price,
It’s a great day to go to the zoo!

Once you get there,
Having forgotten every care,
You’ll never want to leave!

You’ll get lots of exercise,
And, to be very precise,
The fresh air will do you no harm.

Admire the peacock
Or watch other kids flock
To see the monkeys play.

When eating your lunch,
Maybe something with a crunch,
Do not let the animals have a taste,

For even one tiny lick
Will make them very sick,
So deny them no matter how hard they beg!

Ride on an elephant’s back
Or on the train on its track,
But enjoy yourself either way.

Go alone or on a date
But please don’t be late!
The zoo is calling your name.

So when the weather is nice
And you can afford the price,
Be sure to go to the zoo!

English

The language we speak is English.
We write and talk and read, which
Are necessary skills to know.
How else would you know where to go
When driving down the road?
Many people think it’s a big load
To learn all the particulars of writing;
They hate grammar and composition and spelling.
Some people love to write,
But for others it’s a major fright.
Sometimes the words just flow from the pen;
Other times it’s like pulling teeth, and then
Finally the words come and the assignment
Is completed, but your brain feels bent.
You feel like you need to let your brain rest,
But almost immediately the teacher assigns the next quest,
Demanding that you produce more, more, more;
All you can think is, “Oh, what a bore!”
To succeed in life, however, knowing English well is crucial,
Or you may begin to sound artificial.
So buck up and learn what you need to know,
Then just relax and go with the flow!
